In response to a left-wing censorship crusade that includes a massive advertiser boycott, Facebook has finally caved to the speech police.
After facing relentless criticism for its decision not to censor President Donald Trump, Facebook folded like a cheap suit and give the Left what it wants: total control over what the president is allowed to say online.
Unilever, Ford, Pfizer, and other large-scale corporations had all pulled their advertising from Facebook in lockstep with the “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign, which demanded that Facebook become just like Twitter in silencing the Commander-in-Chief.
Facebook had previously rejected the group’s bullying, choosing instead to side with free speech, at least to a degree. But the pressure of losing advertising dollars apparently drove Facebook to change its mind and become just another Twitter.
“Being a platform where everyone can make their voice heard is core to our mission, but that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable for people to spread hate. It’s not,” wrote Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg in a recent blog post.
Sandberg noted that the social media giant is now implementing a so-called “civil rights audit” to better align itself with the demands of the censorship mob, which will never be happy until all conservatives are silenced forever.
Don’t miss the following episode of The Health Ranger Report with Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, as he talks to conservative activist Laura Loomer about why Big Tech must be defeated in order for America to be free:
Just to be sure that Facebook never again allows an “offensive” post to graze its network, Stop Hate for Profit is also demanding that the Silicon Valley giant hire a so-called “civil rights executive” to police the platform at all times, ensuring that only left-wing content is permitted.
Hilariously, Facebook is claiming that the changes being made are not due to “financial reasons or advertiser pressure.” Instead, Facebook says “it is the right thing to do,” and will thus be done.
“We are never going to be perfect, but we care about this deeply,” Sandberg added in a company statement. “We will continue to listen and learn and work in the weeks, months, and years ahead.”
If all goes as planned, Facebook’s new civil rights executive will agree to submit to independent audits concerning “hate speech” and “misinformation.” This executive will also be required to remove all “hate speech” and “hate groups” from the platform, as well as refuse refunds to advertisers whose ads appear next to “hate speech.”
“Now is not the time for simply statements of support that don’t come with actual real structural change,” whined Color of Change president Rashad Robinson concerning Facebook’s “failure” to meet the standards of the thought and speech police.
“Now is the time to actually change rules and change behaviors,” she added.
How this will all play out in terms of what types of content will now be allowed on Facebook remains to be seen. Many worry that the platform’s already prohibitive environment will become that much worse to the point that conservatives will start to flee in droves.
“They’ll NOW police speech?” asked one Zero Hedge commenter. “What do we call Facebook’s censorship over the past 10 years?”
“They’re officially policing things now,” responded another.
“The only ‘hate speech’ they are referring to is pro-Trump comments,” chided another, noting that the whole thing is an obvious setup to make Facebook look like it “had” to give in to the cancel culture mob.
